Should Students Wear Uniforms?

Dear students, 

    I have exciting news. Starting next year, all students will have to wear school uniforms. 

    Why? Recently, the dress code has become a big issue. Teachers are spending too much time telling kids to pull up their pants. They’ve also had to ask too many students to cover up T-shirts with inappropriate slogans. School uniforms will make life easier for everyone. That includes you! Imagine not having to worry about what you’re going to wear each day. You’ll have more time in the morning to sleep in or finish homework.

When you no longer have to worry about what you’re going to wear each day, you’ll have more time in the morning to sleep in or finish homework.

    Plus, uniforms will make students feel more equal. Not everyone can afford fancy logo hoodies and expensive jeans. Dressing the same will decrease bullying based on the clothes you wear. You can still express yourselves through your shoes (as long as they’re black) and accessories.

    I truly believe that wearing uniforms will make our school community even stronger. I’m sure you’ll agree. Go CMS Bulldogs!

    My fellow students and I are really disappointed. At our latest student council meeting, we talked about why we think uniforms are a bad idea. I hope you’ll listen to our feedback.

    First of all, an important part of growing up is learning how to express yourself. Clothing is a great way to do that. We love walking the halls and seeing our classmates dressed however they want. Some wear T-shirts and jeans. Others wear vintage clothes or sports attire. Their style tells us about who they are.  

    But that’s not the only reason we’re against uniforms. After we got your letter, I did some research. Did you know that there’s actually no strong proof that uniforms prevent bullying? Even with uniforms, it’ll be obvious who has money and who doesn’t. Unfortunately, kids will still get picked on for their shoes or their hairstyles. 

    We appreciate your point about school spirit. But to us, what makes our school special is how different we all are. We hope you’ll reconsider.
