Subject: Re: School Uniforms
My fellow students and I are really disappointed. At our latest student council meeting, we talked about why we think uniforms are a bad idea. I hope you’ll consider our feedback.
First of all, an important part of growing up is learning how to express yourself—and clothing is a great way to do that. We enjoy walking the halls and seeing our classmates dressed however they want. Some wear T-shirts and jeans, while others wear vintage clothing or sports attire. Their style sends a message about who they are.
But that’s not the only reason we’re against uniforms. After we received your letter, I did some research and found that there’s actually no strong proof that uniforms prevent bullying. Even with uniforms, it’ll still be obvious who has money and who doesn’t. Unfortunately, students will still get picked on for their shoes or their hairstyles.
We appreciate your point about school spirit. But to us, what makes our school special is how different we all are. We hope you’ll reconsider.
Sincerely,
George
